ITV’s McCall “not considering” BBC director general job

Current DG due to step down in the summer

ITV CEO Carolyn McCall has attempted to quash any speculation linking her with the BBC’s top job.

In a call to discuss ITV’s revenues, McCall told reporters “I can say it is not something I’m considering.”

Current BBC DG Tony Hall is due to step down later this year.

ITV delivered lower earnings and advertising revenues in 2019, but was boosted by growth for ITV Studios.

The business posted revenues of £3.31 billion — up 3 per cent on 2018’s £3.21 billion — but reported a 1.5 per cent drop in advertising revenues to £1.77 billion.

McCall said the broadcaster’s outlook for 2020 remains “on track” to deliver medium-term targets, and it has begun the year with strong online viewing, up 89 per cent due to the likes of The Masked Singer and Love Island.
