ITV, BT ‘in talks over Champions League rights’

BT is entitled to sell the rights to a rival broadcaster

ITV is reportedly in talks with BT about securing broadcast rights to live Champions League matches.

According to the Sunday Times, ITV was left disappointed when UEFA announced BT had retained the rights to Europe’s leading club event in November. ITV had been looking to bring the competition back to free-to-air television for the first time since 2015.

As part of its deal, BT is entitled to sell the rights to a rival broadcaster.

It’s thought ITV and BT could look to share the rights to each round of matches, in much the same way ITV shared the rights with Sky before BT took over.

BT Sport told TVBEurope it has no comment to make on the report.
