Italian regulator to investigate DAZN-TIM deal

Follows the announcement the sports streamer had won the rights to Serie A matches for the next three seasons

Italian regulator Agcom has opened an investigation into the deal between DAZN and Telecom Italia (TIM) that saw the sports streamer acquire the rights to Serie A matches for the next three years.

In a statement, Agcom said it had launched an investigation into TIM, with the aim of “verifying the possible existence of distorting effects or positions that are in any case detrimental to pluralism.”

The statement from Agcom adds that it will look at the company’s agreement with DAZN, “which, by extending the existing partnership, will bring the contents of the streaming service to TIMVISION for the next three years.”

Last month it was announced DAZN had won the rights to Serie A for the next three years, beginning with the 2021/22 season.

At the same time the streamer confirmed it had signed a distribution deal with TIM’s TIMVISION.
