Warner Bros Discovery is reportedly considering reopening negotiations with Paramount, despite having agreed a $87 billion deal to sell its film and television studios, HBO Max and HBO to Netflix.
According to Bloomberg, WBD is considering reopening talks with Paramount following its most recent amended offer.
Last week, Paramount improved its buyout terms, offering to cover the $2.8 billion fee that WBD would have to pay to Netflix should it terminate the sale to the streaming company.
According to the report, WBD’s board is “discussing whether Paramount could offer a path to a superior deal”, which could potentially start a bidding war between the two suitors.
Both Netflix and Paramount are believed to be willing to raise their bids in order secure the deal. “Paramount chief executive officer David Ellison has said the current offer isn’t his last and final bid, while Netflix’s leadership has told shareholders it could go higher as well,” said Bloomberg.
Shareholders are expected to vote on Netflix’s plan to acquire WBD’s film and television studios, HBO Max and HBO in the early spring.
