InterDigital initiates IP enforcement action against Disney

The company said it deserves "fair compensation" for its innovation, with the long-term success of the streaming industry for consumers and creators dependent on it

InterDigital has started litigation agains The Walt Disney Company.

The mobile, video and AI technology R&D company has instigated proceedings against Disney, including Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+, over what the company states is “ongoing infringement of InterDigital’s intellectual property.”

Cases have been initiated in US Federal District Court in California’s Central District, Rio de Janeiro State Court, the Munich Regional Court and in the Unified Patent Courts of Mannheim and Düsseldorf Local Divisions.

Josh Schmidt, InterDigital’s chief legal officer, said, “Our video technologies enable Disney to efficiently stream content and enhance the user experience. We always prefer to sign license agreements through amicable negotiation, but we are committed to receiving fair compensation for our groundbreaking research, which allows us to continue to invest in the next generation of technology.”
