IBM and Vodafone team up to boost Europe’s Cloud capabilities

European 5G market currently lags behind the US and China

IBM and Vodafone have announced a new venture aimed at boosting Europe’s 5G, AI and Cloud capabilities.

The partnership will grant Vodafone access to IBM’s Cloud services, while Vodafone will provide IBM with mobile infrastructure such as 5G.

The joint venture is designed to accelerate Europe’s foothold in new markets like Cloud computing and 5G, where it currently lags behind the US and China.

The International Data Corporation (IDC) estimates the global Cloud market will be worth $420 billion this year, with the Cloud connectivity market worth an additional $2 billion.

IBM general manager Michael Valoochi said: “Bringing together this end-to-end idea from Vodafone and IBM is going to be a game-changer for our customers.”
