Global Academy aims to address gender imbalance in industry with new sport media course

The course launched in September with a dedicated intake of nine female students, which the Academy said will "act as pioneers for women in the industry"

Global Academy has introduced a new sports media pathway to its media training offerings for 16- to 18-year-olds.

The course launched in September with a dedicated intake of nine female students, which the Academy said will “act as pioneers for women in the industry”.

The UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology is tailored specifically for the fast-paced world of sports media. The first cohort of students studying at the Academy’s campus in Hayes, London is using the same technology as professional broadcasters.

James Murray-Walsh, principal of Global Academy, said: “We are not just launching a course; we are launching a movement. By securing a dedicated cohort of nine ambitious young women to join this programme, we are making a tangible commitment to the future of the industry. These students won’t just be learning about sports media; they will be redefining who gets to be the ‘voice of sport’ for the next generation.”

The course is open to all students with a passion for sport, but Global Academy said it is specifically encouraging young women who may never have considered a career behind the camera to apply. More details about the 2026 intake are available here.
