Germany’s RTL cuts staff hours during pandemic

Certain departments such as editorial and production likely to be excluded from the measure

German broadcaster RTL is cutting staff working hours from next month due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to news agency dpa-AFX, approximately 4000 employees have been informed of the plan.

Discussions are on-going as to whether certain departments such as editorial and production will be excluded from the measure.

The media group’s channels include RTL, ntv, Vox, RTLzwei, Nitro, Super RTL and pay-TV channels such as RTL Crime.

The shorter working week is expected to initially apply for four months. The company is also expected to ask staff to wear masks while on site.

RTL’s parent company Bertelsmann has already introduced a shorter working week for certain departments.
