Facebook’s foray into television is expected to launch by mid-August, according to a report.
Bloomberg says Facebook has been asking its partners to deliver the first episodes of their spotlight shows. It’s expected the service will launch with short-form programmes before the higher-end TV-style shows launch at a later date.
The company is funding a set of original programmes, expected to be displayed outside of a user’s news feed in a new video section.I t hopes to target audiences from ages 13 to 34, with a particular focus on the 17-to-30 range.
The new video section will offer the social network’s more than two billion users a mix of scripted and user-generated content.
A Facebook spokeswoman declined to comment.
