One of the most prominent individuals in the digital/social media firmament, Facebook’s vice-president & managing director EMEA, Joanna Shields (pictured), is to present the IBC2011 convention keynote address at 09:30 on Friday 9 September.

At Facebook, Shields’ primary focus is elevating the service as the world’s most valuable marketing and communications platform for global advertisers and brands. Shields has more than two decades’ experience of creating, managing and scaling international technology businesses, maximising shareholder value and leading start-up companies to successful exits. She has also been a driving force in the European internet sector, having held key positions at leading companies such as Real Networks International, Google and Bebo, where she built the company from a start-up into one of Europe’s leading social networks and spearheaded its successful acquisition by AOL, Time Warner for $850, in March 2008.

At IBC2011, Shields – who was recently named number 1 ‘UK Digital Power Broker’ by Wired magazine – will consider the relationship and revolution social media has developed with broadcasting, and look at the future implications of this pairing.

Shields will also join other key industry figures in the prestigious IBC Leaders’ Summit, an elite invite-only event focused on ‘Leadership in a Digital Age’ and underpinned by fresh and diverse research from Deloitte.
