Albert Faust, director, Media Technology Systems, CTV Television Canada is the latest speaker to join the programme for the Sports Broadcast Europe conference.
At TVBEurope’s Sports Broadcast Europe in London’s BAFTA on October 28, Faust will present the technical challenges faced and solutions used by Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium. The consortium consisted of three English, two French and six multilingual channels broadcasting over 1600 hours of live television production out of a single broadcast facility built in the International Broadcast Centre in Vancouver.
The coverage achieved the distinction of being the most watched television event in Canadian history; many times during the broadcast more than 50% of the Canadian population was watching. To achieve this broadcast milestone, the Consortium had to create entire new workflows to deal with content management, scheduling and distribution. The foundation of the production workflow was a suite of custom software applications utilised throughout the Consortium’s purpose-built broadcast facilities.
Another addition to the programme is a Masterclass in lighting on-air talent for sporting events, presented by Ken Fisher, co-founder of Litepanels. Emmy award-winning Litepanels LED lighting fixtures are at the forefront in lighting talent for major network televised sporting events, including broadcast studios for Sky Italia and NBC at the Olympics.
Additionally, Litepanels systems are illuminating the sports announcer booths for every National Football League (NFL) game this year for CBS and Fox Sports – and at this year’s World Cup in South Africa over 180 Litepanels units were utilised to light the on-air talent at multiple broadcast venues. As a co-founder of Litepanels, Fisher has over 20 year of experience lighting for TV, film, and video and will take the audience through a number of sports event lighting challenges.
And we have a further Masterclass for delegates, TV graphics including live 3D graphics creation, presented by Moov Managing Director, Duncan Foot. Moov is one of the UK’s leading live graphics service providers, recently delivering graphics for some of sports’ premium events, including the Winter Olympics, Wimbledon Championships, PSA World Squash Tour and Commonwealth Games 2010.
As live on-air graphics become ever more creative and complex, Duncan Foot will take us on a real journey through the modern landscape of live sports graphics, illustrated with live examples including some 3D — and of course an eye towards London 2012.
