Speakers from Cisco and Dolby have been confirmed on the Beyond HD Masters 2014 programme.

Speakers from Cisco and Dolby have been confirmed on the Beyond HD Masters 2014 programme. This year’s conference returns to London’s BAFTA on 3 June.

Joining as a panelist is Roland Vlaicu (pictured, above), senior director, Broadcast Imaging Dolby Laboratories, Inc.

Vlaicu is responsible for worldwide product marketing and deployment of Dolby’s video technologies to the cable, satellite, telecommunications and electronic media industries. This includes the recently launched Dolby Vision as well as the Dolby 3D technology suite for entertainment devices that was launched at NAB 2012 in collaboration with Philips and is being promoted together with James Cameron’s CAMERON | PACE Group.

He has worked with Dolby since 2000 and helped lead the successful launch of the Dolby E format, which earned a Primetime Emmy Award in 2005. Prior to joining Dolby, he helped implement Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound technology at ProSieben Television, Germany’s second-largest commercial broadcaster, where he worked in the distribution networks department and was a member of the CTO office.

Keynote speaker Simon Parnall (pictured, right) is a Cisco distinguished engineer, leading research and collaborative activities, and acting in a thought-leadership capacity both inside and outside the company. His current activities include future television systems, novel approaches to integrated hybrid television and new thinking for the connected home.

Parnall joined NDS, now part of Cisco, after leaving BBC Research and Development in 1999. He was responsible for the BBC’s system for the presentation of widescreen films and RDS (the Radio Data System) and led research work on highly efficient traffic message delivery to mobile navigation systems using Digital Audio Broadcasting and RDS.

He was chairman of DAVIC’s Applications Technical Committee, and – in this role pioneered the concept of the PVR. In 1999 he founded the TV-Anytime Forum – an organisation he chaired until 2005 when it completed its second phase of specifications, now available as an international standard through ETSI.

Beyond HD Masters 2014 follows the successful series of HD and 3D Masters conferences from TVBEurope that helped to chart and forecast the maturation of HD and 3D in the broadcast market.

Delegates will have the chance to hear from the world standardisation leaders, examine case studies from high-profile production trials, and find out the future for 3DTV in Europe, and more.
