Canal Plus has acquired Luxembourg-based pay-TV operator M7 Group from private equity firm Astorg Partners for €1 billion.
M7 started as a satellite TV operator and evolved into a platform agnostic TV provider with IPTV, DTT and OTT capabilities, distributing content from Disney Channel, HBO and Eurosport.
The operator has a customer base of three million across the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania, which would bring Canal Plus’ customers to 12 million across Europe.
Hans Troelstra, M7 Group CEO, said: “Following this transaction M7 will get access to the content creation and channel publishing capabilities of Canal Plus.
“The operational model from M7, and our ambitions to grow in Europe, will not change and all operations will continue to be managed from our Luxembourg headquarters.”
