Bectu hosting meeting to discuss Covid-19’s impact on OB workers

Meeting is open to Bectu members and non-members

Union Bectu is holding a meeting open to both members and non-members to discuss the impact of Covid-19 on those who work in outside broadcasting.

The meeting, which takes place at 11am BST on Friday 29th May, will include a discussion of the pandemic’s impact on outside broadcasting as well as a number of polls covering issues including confidence in social distancing while doing OB work, the impact coronavirus has had on budgets and how well supported the OB community has been during the crisis.

Bectu negotiations executive Sean Kelly, a former OB vision engineer, said, “It’s difficult to understand social isolation in an OB context – many of the crew are working tightly packed in confined spaces in OB trucks, and it takes at least two people to rig much of the heavy kit, for example – so we want to work with OB companies to understand how our members can return to a safe working environment, and this meeting is the first step in that conversation.”
