BBC and Netflix join forces for Troy

Netflix has announced it is working with the BBC on Troy: Fall of a City, a new limited series from David Farr, the writer of The Night Manager.

The drama is described as an epic tale of love revenge and intrigue focusing on the war and the love affair between Paris and Helen of Troy, which, if Homer is to be believed, started the Trojan war.

Owen Harris, who directed the San Junipero episode of Netflix’s Black Mirror, will direct Troy.

Troy is due to begin filming in South Africa in March and will premiere in the UK on BBC One and outside the UK on Netflix. The BBC first unveiled plans for the show in 2015.

Netflix also announced it was partnering with BBC Two on thriller Black Earth Rising, about the prosecution of international war crimes. BBC 2 will air the series in the UK, with Netflix taking the rest of the world.
