As the initial wave of promotion fades, the financial reality of 3DTV is coming under scrutiny. Broadcasters, particularly those with commitments to full channels rather than one-off events, are under pressure to bring costs in line with 2D and to make available a steady stream of content.
Yet the technology is moving rapidly and the techniques are barely known beyond a few specialists. If 3D is to survive beyond its first year, everyone in the industry agrees that’s what is needed is education, education and education.
3D Masters 2011 brings together experienced practioners, 3D equipment vendors and leading broadcasters to discuss the lessons learned from 3DTV productions; the key issues facing producers wanting to move into 3D; and the direction of core technology.
Its mission is to encourage quality production of 3D content through frank and informative discussion.
The conference will outline the core ‘best practice’ acquisition techniques for handling convergence before taking a step-by-step look at 3D workflow from acquisition and monitoring on set to post production.
It will explain how the streams are handled in an outside broadcast situation, a studio gallery prior to transmission and in post production for editing, grade and mastering. The true production costs of 3D work will also be highlighted.
How are 3D signals routed from the OB truck or broadcaster to the home? How are they compressed and decoded on reception? What are the different types of screen and glasses combinations? 3D Masters 2011 decodes the technology behind the heated debate on standards.
