ATG completes HD MCR for AP

ATG Broadcast has completed a new HD master control room for the Associated Press as a key element in the news agency's global transition to HD.

ATG Broadcast has completed a new HD master control room for the Associated Press as a key element in the news agency’s global transition to HD, writes David Fox.

Located in Camden, London, the MCR is AP’s international video hub, serving AP clients in many countries as well as linking with its global network of news bureaux.

“The new MCR is part of our HD infrastructure upgrade, providing a state of the art video infrastructure for AP’s video operations,” explained AP Technology Manager, Global Video, Peter Watson.

“The control room provides enhanced video monitoring and ergonomic workstations for the operational team. ATG Broadcast was a logical choice for the project given its successful track record in designing and installing comparable systems for major broadcasters in many countries.”

“We designed a complete multi-seat MCR and transmission facility that can accommodate five operators plus a supervisor,” said ATG Broadcast’s Managing Director, Graham Day.

“Work on the system began in May when prefabrication commenced at ATG’s premises. The MCR went live in October as scheduled. It is fully equipped for 1.5 gigabit per second operation, but with a core that can easily be upgraded to 3Gbps as or when required. The project includes connection to existing architecture and migration of live services to the new area.”
