4K is Alive at BAFTA Awards

Last night’s annual BAFTA awards highlighted 4K production with the Atlantic Productions/Sky win for David Attenborough’s Natural History Museum Alive.

Last night’s annual British Academy Television Awards, sponsored by Arqiva, highlighted 4K production with the Atlantic Productions/Sky win for David Attenborough’s Natural History Museum Alive.

Atlantic Productions pioneering documentary team will be part of TVBEurope’s Beyond HD Masters conference on 3 June at BAFTA Piccadilly. Tickets are still available for TVBEurope’s Beyond HD Masters conference at: www.beyondhdmasters.com

Natural History Museum Alive won the BAFTA in the Specialist Factual category. The 3D documentary – which also incorporated augemented reality features via an accompanying app – was another co-production with Sky under the two companies’ Colossus Productions partnership. Accepting the award were Anthony Geffen, Sir David Attenborough, Mike Davis, and Dan Smith. In his acceptance speech, Atlantic CEO Geffen remarked of Attenborough’s BAFTA history: “David Attenborough has now won in black and white, colour, HD, 3D, and now the first winner of a BAFTA award, I believe, in 4K!”

The rest of the evening offered a few surprises and recognition of popular favourites. Below are the nominees for each British Academy Television Awards category, with the winner in each category highlighted.
