A new advocacy alliance aims to create a unified platform representing European wireless microphone users and RF professionals and ensure continuing spectrum access for audio Programme Making and Special Events (PMSE).
Launched under the banner, ‘The European Voice of Wireless Microphone & RF Professionals’, WMSA Europe (Wireless Microphone Spectrum Alliance) will tackle increasing regulatory pressure on the audio PMSE spectrum, in particular the UHF range, including the 600 MHz band, at a time when wireless audio usage is undergoing a period of rapid expansion.
Wireless microphones and RF systems are essential in broadcasting, film and TV production and more, and as spectrum congestion increases, the expertise of professionals in the field is increasingly important. With many in the industry self-employed or freelance operators, WMSA Europe aims to provide a unified voice to ensure efficient spectrum use and reliable, interference-free operation. The organisation “brings them together to promote technical excellence, unify and amplify their voices and complement other associations with the shared goal of supporting audio PMSE in European spectrum discussions.”
WMSA Europe launches with four clearly defined goals:
- Defend and promote access by audio PMSE to critical spectrum resources
- Bring together and inform RF coordinators, sound engineers, and event professionals
- Promote the next generation of RF specialists
- Build a dynamic and diverse European advocacy and knowledge platform
With founder members across France, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain the UK and Denmark the network supports cross-border consistency and shared professional standards across the continent. Acting as a technical and operational voice, WMSA Europe will ensure policy-makers are accurately informed, bringing deep-field expertise and technical evidence into dialogue with decision makers.
RF Coordinators, wireless audio professionals, suppliers and live production organisations are invited to join WMSA Europe. Details are available at www.wmsa.org/wmsa-europe
