Sennheiser collaborates with broadcast industry on Spectera Pioneer Programme

The programme aims to provide Sennheiser with insights and use cases to further evolve its bi-directional wideband digital wireless ecosystem, Spectera

Sennheiser has announced its Spectera Pioneer Programme is underway.

Unveiled at this year’s IBC show, Sennheiser’s Spectera bi-directional wideband digital wireless ecosystem aims to revolutionise broadcast audio. Designed to evolve with changing customer needs, Sennheiser intends to work with selected users to further develop the solution. The first round of participants in the programme have now received and deployed Spectera systems, with training provided by Sennheiser’s Technical Application Engineering (TAE) team.

Co-CEO, Dr Andreas Sennheiser, explained, “Spectera is an ever-evolving ecosystem that will continuously be fine-tuned and shaped by input from our end users. The Pioneer Programme is a testament to this ambition. While operators can familiarise themselves with the new, user-friendly workflows enabled by Spectera, we are engaging in a dialogue to collect valuable insights to further shape the ecosystem regarding devices, performance and features.”

Participants currently putting Spectera through its paces will provide feedback to the company, describing how the system is being adapted to their day-to-day workflows. Sennheiser’s Theresa Vondran, pro category market manager and co-head of the Pioneer Programme, said, “We are eager to understand how diverse customers are employing the new WMAS (wireless multi-channel audio systems), and implement usage scenarios and ideas into our future release plan. Our R&D teams can’t wait to get this additional input to evolve Spectera beyond general availability in 2025.”

Sennheiser said it is working with regulators across the world to achieve approval for WMAS use. Summarising progress, Andreas Wilzeck, head of spectrum policy and standards at the company, said, “In EMEA, the regulatory approval of WMAS is effective in the EU-27 countries, in the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Greenland, Qatar, UAE, South Africa, Rwanda, Kenya, Nigeria, and Israel. In the Americas, WMAS ruling has been granted in the USA and Canada, and in APAC, the regulatory authorities in Australia (for indoor use), Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Bhutan, Taiwan and Hong Kong have approved WMAS technology. Product certification is already completed or on its way.

“Our spectrum team is working closely with our local colleagues to achieve rule changes in some additional countries in APAC, Africa and Latin America. Beyond that, we are investigating statuses and possibilities in many other countries globally.”
