How Light Year Studios found the audio sweet spot on Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey

The UK-based creative audio recording and post production house relied on NUGEN Audio's suite of plug-ins to increase production workflow efficiency

NUGEN Audio has revealed Light Year Studios has selected a range of its plug-in solutions.

The creative audio and post-production studio has deployed NUGEN’s VisLM loudness meter which enables average loudness to be gauged for applications such as voiceovers and short and long-form mixes. The solution also features dialogue-gated loudness.

The Halo Upmix plug in is used by Light Year for immersive audio and post production. The solution aims to streamline workflows and was used by the studio in its work on both Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2.

Rob Ackerman, re-recording mixer at Light Year, said: “It takes away all the pain of trying to find the right divergence for the rears and wondering if it sounds correct, if it will fold down correctly, etc. It saves me a good 20 minutes of tweaking and head scratching.”

NUGEN’s ISL limiter has also been deployed by the studio. “The fact that you can set your True Peak without losing loudness or having to correct your gain is extremely practical and labour-saving ― the simplicity of it is even better,” said Ackerman. “The ability to drop ISL onto your stem tracks and know that you’ll always stay under a certain threshold while maintaining the integrity of the stem is really valuable.”

Engineers at the studio have also selected LM-Correct, which enables rendering of various loudness versions and is used specifically for dialogue work.
