Germany’s ARD launches ‘Klare-Sprach’ optimised audio

The setting is available for viewers watching via satellite or DVB-T2 HD

German broadcaster ARD is adding a new language optimised soundtrack to certain programmes as a way to help viewers hear what’s going on.

The ‘Klare-Sprach’ (Clear Language) setting was initially introduced in June, and is now being rolled out to more programmes.

The setting includes a technically prepared audio signal that enables viewers to better understand speech. Viewers can select it using their TV remote control in the audio menu.

It is available via satellite and DVB-T2 HD transmissions, with the broadcaster stating the decision to carry the setting on cable and streaming platforms is down to the individual carrier.
