BBC iPlayer to offer fans alternative commentary during Qatar 2022

Fans will be able to opt for commentary from BBC Radio 5 Live if they're watching on iPlayer

Following the news that football fans will be able to follow the BBC’s coverage of the FIFA World Cup in UHD HDR on iPlayer, it’s now been announced the streaming platform will offer alternative commentary.

Fans will be able to opt for commentary from BBC Radio 5 Live if they’re watching on iPlayer.

It’s part of a new stream, titled World Cup Extra which will be available throughout the tournament. The stream will show additional supporting programmes, including Match of the Day Top Ten, and special documentaries.

Matches with the alternative commentary available include, England v Iran, Wales v Iran, Spain v Germany, and Wales v England during the group stages.

Dan McGolpin, director of BBC iPlayer, said: “More and more people are going to BBC iPlayer for the biggest TV moments and enjoying the extra benefits that you get there, for the World Cup that means additional coverage before and after the big matches, alternative commentary from 5 Live and every match live streamed in Ultra High Definition and High Dynamic Range.”
