Ted Sarandos: AI is going to create a ‘great’ set of creator tools

Meanwhile, Netflix once again outpaced analysts' expectations, adding 8 million new subscribers globally, and over 2 million in EMEA

During a call with analysts following the release of Netflix’s Q2 2024 results, co-CEO Ted Sarandos discussed the impact artificial intelligence (AI) could have on the creative industry.

Admitting that it’s hard to predict the future, Sarandos did tell analysts: “I think that AI is a great — is going to generate a great set of creator tools, a great way for creators to tell better stories.

“And one thing that’s sure, if you look back over a hundred years of entertainment, you can see how great technology and great entertainment work hand in hand to build great big businesses.”

Sarandos added that there are a lot of filmmakers and products currently experimenting with AI. “They’re super excited about how useful a tool it can be. And we [have] to see how that develops before we can make any meaningful predictions of what it means for anybody.

“But our goal remains unchanged, which is telling great stories,” he added.
