Dimension launches AI-powered media production pipeline

Aiming to support filmmakers to deliver content faster and more efficiently, the studio has released a proof-of-concept animation to showcase the pipeline's capabilities

Dimension Studio has launched an end-to-end AI content production pipeline.

Designed by the studio’s Dimension Futures team, the pipeline aims to enhance and speed up production processes for filmmakers and content creators. Ahead of its rollout across the business, the team has produced an animated short as a proof-of-concept to demonstrate the solution’s capabilities.

Titled Mara and Milo: Magic and Mayhem, the animation was created by two artists with everything from initial ideation, storyboarding, character and environment design to virtual camera control, shot composition and voiceover supported by the AI-powered pipeline, said the company. The pipeline allowed the production to be delivered in weeks rather than months, with ideas across lighting, animation, camera moves, shot creation and selection and environment able to be quickly iterated. Overall, the team estimated production time was reduced to a third of what it would have been using traditional processes.

Junaid Baig, Dimension Studio’s chief innovation officer, commented, “When using AI tools for content generation, the control and consistency from shot-to-shot has been one of the biggest challenges. What our team has been able to do is to systematise how tools are used to enable consistent results for characters and environment, and to maintain control of assets between shots for things like camera movement or animating multiple characters at once.”

The company said the pipeline positions it as a partner for productions looking to explore the creative application of AI for use cases which require a fast turnaround, such as animated series, short-form content or advertising. The innovation can accommodate a range of different genre requirements,  supporting the creation of any content style including photorealistic.

Created with Dimension’s human-centric approach to AI in mind, the pipeline is designed to support artists’ individual  creative and artistic delivery, said the company. Simon Windsor, CEO at Dimension, said, “AI is a revolutionary technology that’s transforming filmmaking and storytelling at unprecedented speed and scale. Exciting new production approaches are evolving very quickly with the opportunity to empower creatives and artists like never before,.Our Futures team is focused on advancing the next generation of content creation and we’re looking forward to putting our AI pipeline into the hands of our artists and clients to support their creative vision.”
