Vimeo launches TVoD service

Vimeo has launched a transactional TV service after Lionsgate and Starz penned deals to provide content to the new service.

Vimeo TV Store is designed to let premium studios sell their shows on a pay-per view basis to viewers in over 150 countries globally.

Lionsgate is the first major Hollywood studio to provide content to the new venture, making virtually its entire TV catalogue available, including popular series like Orange is the New Black, The Royals, Mad Men and Weeds.

Starz will add its content in the coming weeks and will sell shows such as The Girlfriend Experience, Ash vs Evil Dead and Black Sails.

“As audiences across the globe continue to shift towards online viewing, Vimeo is taking a leadership role, establishing our On Demand storefront as the world’s first transactional service to offer premium television on a truly global basis” said Sam Toles, senior vice president, programming, Vimeo.

“We’re truly excited to be partnering with Lionsgate and now Starz to offer their content and today’s launch marks a huge expansion for our offering of premium programming.”
