Ukraine 1+1 chooses Annova

Annova Systems has released details of its latest customer in Ukraine: the TV channel 1+1. As a central part of its newly constructed News Studio, the OpenMedia software was chosen to cover a sophisticated news workflow for 80 concurrent users.

The Ukrainian Channel 1+1 is known for its strong news service and with the move to a new broadcast studio, a modern file-based workflow with OpenMedia NOW has also been established. “The project was quite challenging as the constructed News Studio was just ready for installation of the newsroom computer system in January 2013, while it was required to go on Air in February. Luckily OpenMedia NOW turned out to be a perfect choice. Thanks to its turnkey concept, it could be installed, integrated, rolled-out and trained to the users in this short timeframe.” explained Andrey Werbovetsky, Project Leader at 1+1.

The focus of 1+1 was on a flexible editorial workflow and rundown management. In order to support production planning of videos, a special workflow of Timing Placeholders was implemented in OpenMedia NOW: a list of Video Productions shows all videos to be produced for a day. Inside such a list, the journalist is able to create a story element with timing placeholders that serve as a kind of storyboard for the cutter (as they comprise all the length and information of all video elements which are needed). Once the Cutter has published the completed video, it can be called up in OpenMedia NOW and used in the further editorial workflow and finally for playout. As a bonus, RSS feeds have been integrated as sources for editorial research.

To ensure a seamless workflow throughout the new production, connections to third party systems was essential. Integrating Vizrt’s graphics system, Autocue’s Teleprompter and Harris’ MAM and playout thus enables the journalist to cover the whole News Workflow from the initial idea through to broadcast inside of OpenMedia NOW.

“1+1 as a new client means a lot to us. Our strong bond with our integration partners Harris, Vizrt and Autocue helped to design this news workflow.” says Michael Schueller, CEO of Annova Systems.
