TVE Galicia streamlines news graphics workflow

5 March 2012

Journalists at Spanish regional broadcaster TVE Galicia can now create and populate graphics from their editorial workstations. Vizrt’s Newsroom Connect plug-in is now implemented across the station’s Avid iNews network. The Vizrt ActiveX plug-in allows users of the Avid iNews network to create graphics in Viz Content Pilot network. Newsroom Connect also interfaces directly with the iNews Command module, the automation system that manages the playlist for the news stories. Viz Content Pilot graphics are linked directly to specific news stories by the journalists who prepared them. Pointers to the graphics, along with in and out timecodes and durations are dropped into the rundown. Once the rundown and the associated graphics metadata are loaded into Avid Command, the automated playout system generates a playlist that triggers the Viz Engine realtime rendering system, delivering video clips and graphics as secondary events. “With this innovative newsroom integration, our journalists who are most familiar with particular news stories can create their own animated graphics by adding elements such as text, lower third supers, data, images and video into ready to use Viz Content Pilot templates, all from within iNews,” said Alberto Lema, chief of production and media at TVE Galicia. “This accurate, seamless integration between the Viz Content Pilot graphics system and the Avid newsroom workflow enables us quickly to create visually rich graphics for our live newscasts,” Lema added. “For broadcast newsrooms these are vital empowering tools, and now they work seamlessly together.” TVE Galicia is the regional operation for Spain’s largest public television network. Based in Santiago de Compostela, it produces a nightly regional news programme Territorial Journal. The new graphics integration between Vizrt and Avid has been in use since December 2011.
