TRT archive goes digital with Tedial

Turkish national broadcaster TRT has implemented a new asset management system from Tedial to provide digital access to its complete historical content archive. Tedial worked with systems integrator Datateknik to migrate the old asset management system and to manage the take-on of a vast amount of analogue content. The new system uses several elements of Tedial’s modular suite, including Tarsys asset management, Ficus business process management and AST archive management, alongside capture technology and workflow and process design tools. The company also developed the necessary interfaces to legacy third party applications and technology to deliver precisely the functionality TRT required. Despite significant technical obstacles, all the media and metadata from the old asset management system was successfully migrated. As well as transferring the high resolution files the migration process also created low resolution proxies in H.264, preserving the original keyframes selected by TRT archivists in the past. Alongside the earlier archive system, TRT had a physical archive of 100,000 hours of material stored on Betacam and Digital Betacam, D3 and one inch analogue video tape. TRT required all this material to be digitised as part of the project. “Tedial has helped us to improve our archive systems with new functionalities including high definition, watermarking and quality control, and it allows us to be open to different media formats,” said Fikriye Berker, TRT chief engineer for digital archive systems. “In addition, we expect to significantly improve efficiency by automating and simplifying tasks in our production workflow,” she added.
