The EBU deploys NovelSat satellite technology

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has selected NovelSat’s NS3 satellite modulation technology to distribute news and sports content within its global network. The EBU is using NovelSat’s NS3-powered NS1000 and NS2000 satellite modulators and demodulators to reduce costs while increasing bandwidth availability and improving fade margins. The NovelSat equipment will be used in the transmission of live pictures of several major 2012 sporting events, including broadcast feeds covering Formula 1, the London Olympics and the UEFA Euro 2012 football championship. “Following extensive testing, we have selected the NovelSat’s solution due to the superior bandwidth efficiency, and all-around performance, notably when modulating large carriers said Paolo Pusterla, head of Procurement & Partnerships at the EBU. Graham Warren, EBU director of Network also added, “One critical task in maintaining the EBU’s leading market position is the need to reduce the cost of services provided over the EBU network. Our users’ demand for higher bandwidth is always increasing and the NovelSat solution allows us to substantially increase our payload bandwidth without increasing our satellite resource costs.” “Sport is the avant-garde of television that constantly pushes the performance envelope of HDTV, 3DTV and newer technologies. When we started working with a pioneering sport broadcaster of the stature of EBU, we wanted to make sure that our NS3 line of products met all the highest standards, including all the necessary features and performance expectations required by such an influential customer,” said David Furstenberg (pictured), chairman of NovelSat. “We had many skeptics who thought such efficiency increases were impossible, but we achieved the ‘impossible’ by ignoring the critics and adhering to the high standards of the EBU.” www.novelsat.com
