Studio Six: 3D and 3G facility20 April 2011
The BBC has equipped studio six at TV Centre as a 3D facility that is also the UK’s first 1080 50p HD studio. Adrian Pennington looks at the 3D build-out and talks to the BBC’s Technical Development Manager Danny Popkin.
The 800 sq m space can accommodate up to eight 3D rigs or 16 camera channels. An adjoining room has space for eight stereographers and/or convergence pullers. Popkin explains the BBC’s equipment choices and how the studio might be used, such as for Sky’s 3D service, or for further BBC experiments following its 3D pilot of Strictly Come Dancing (pictured).
