Sonnet introduces portable Raid

Sonnet Technologies has launched the F2QR portable two-drive Raid, with a pair of 1TB drives shock-mounted side by side in a housing the size of two stacked CDs. It includes a built-in hardware Raid controller so that it manages the disks without imposing any load on the host computer.

Interfaces for eSATA, Firewire 800 and USB 2.0 are included. Used in conjunction with the Sonnet Tempo Pro Express Card the drive can deliver sustained read speeds of 160 MB/s on eSATA, fast enough for multiple HD streams for direct editing. Write speed is up to 100 MB/s.
A configuration utility for PC or Mac allows the user to select Raid 0, 1, Span or JBOD. Power is supplied through the Firewire port, either from the host computer or from an external power supply. The aluminium case acts as the heatsink, meaning the drive requires no fans but runs cool and virtually silent. Sonnet Technologies has launched the F2QR portable two-drive Raid, with a pair of 1TB drives shock-mounted side by side in a housing the size of two stacked CDs.
