Softel to showcase latest subtitling, captioning solutions

5 July 2011

The ScheduleSmart workflow technology and Swift vTX subtitle/caption encoding software are just two of many developments to be highlighted by Softel at this year’s edition of IBC.

Reading, UK-based Softel says that its solutions are designed to let broadcasters and network operators deliver a variety of innovative services promptly and cost-effectively.

Specific product developments under the spotlight will include ScheduleSmart, a workflow technology that uses proprietary heuristics and algorithms to determine the optimum point in the workflow at which to bind subtitles, captions and ancillary data to content. The technology automatically assesses whether there is time to ingest data to media servers or a digital asset management system. If the system determines that early or late binding is not possible, live systems are automatically directed to perform the bind at time of air.

Another development, Softel Swift vTX, enables broadcasters to repurpose content regardless of file format. The subtitle and caption encoding software allows users to switch between SD and HD formats easily, facilitating multiplatform and worldwide distribution. There is support for a large array of files, wrappers and playout formats.

Swift TX, meanwhile, is billed as a flexible and cost-effective subtitle/caption management and transmission platform that reduces workflow complexity and increases reliability and productivity. The solution features real-time transcoding and a range of automation interfaces, along with wide support of file formats.

Other developments to be showcased at IBC2011 include Swift ADePT audio description software, MediaSphere interactive television playout platform, vFlex ancillary data processing hardware, and Cyclone teletext editing, management and playout solutions.
