Sky plans Spanish Now TV launch

Sky is planning to launch a version of its Now TV online service in Spain, according to the Sunday Telegraph.

According to the report, Sky sees the move as the first phase in a wider plan to take on OTT giants Netflix and Amazon throughout Europe.

The service will reportedly be offered for €10 per month in Spain, having planned the move for ‘over a year’.

Now TV launched in the UK in July 2012 and versions have subsequently been rolled out in Germany and most recently Italy. It runs on a streaming box produced by Roku, in which Sky holds a small stake.

Only 27 per cent of Spanish households have a pay-TV subscription, which makes the nation one of the lowest penetrated pay-TV markets in Europe.
