Sky Deutschland extends DFB Cup deal

Sky Deutschland has extended its rights to DFB Cup coverage for a further three seasons. The deal includes all 63 games from the domestic cup competition across all platforms

Sky Deutschland has extended its rights to DFB Cup coverage for a further three seasons.

The deal includes all 63 games from the domestic cup competition across all platforms, as well as highlights packages and round draws.

Reinhard Grindel, Sky Deutschland DFB president, said, “The agreement with Sky underlines the importance of each game of the DFB Cup.

“For the next three years, the fans will have the opportunity to experience the cup at home live and without interruption. Sky is a reliable and good partner of the DFB, and I am very pleased that the co-operation will be continued.”

The news follows the announcement from the Federal Cartel Office – the Bundeskartellamt – stating that any single TV broadcaster would no longer be able to acquire all domestic pay-TV rights for the live games of Bundesliga across all platforms.

Roman Steuer, executive vice president, Sky Deutschland, added, “The DFB Cup fits perfectly into our extensive sports and football rights portfolio. The eternally youthful duel between David and Goliath, with its sensations and dramas, evokes exactly the emotions that make football for the fans.”
