RTS reveals Craft and Design Awards shortlist

The Royal Television Society (RTS), the UK forum for television and related media, has announced the shortlist for the RTS Craft and Design Awards 2013/2014.

The Awards, spread over 25 categories, recognise the variety of skills and processes involved in programme production, from editing to lighting, and costume design to digital effects. In addition there are two Awards given at the discretion of the Jury Chairs: the Judges’ and Lifetime Achievement Awards.

Last year the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award went to Andy McVean. With over 35 years in the industry McVean has provided visual and special effects for many of the UK’s favourite TV shows. Combining his creative background at art school with 25 years’ experience at the BBC, the winner set up his own effects company at Pinewood Studios in 2002. BT Sport Studio was announced as the winner of the Judges’ Award at the ceremony last year.

The RTS Craft & Design Awards 2013/14 are chaired by Cheryl Taylor, controller of CBBC. The winners will be announced at a ceremony, hosted by Jennifer Saunders, on Monday 1 December 2014 at the London Hilton Park Lane.

For over 80 years, the RTS has provided a platform for debate about the future of television. Its lectures, events and publications are designed to make a contribution to raising standards and developing practice. The RTS organises dinners with speakers, lectures, monthly sessions on current issues, and the biennial Cambridge Convention sets the agenda for the future.
