Riedel Communications‘ new MediorNet Compact is the cost effective and easy-to-use entry into Riedel’s MediorNet world of integrated media signal distribution and processing, writes David Fox.
It is claimed to provide "the flexibility of true real-time media network, including integrated signal processing, at the cost of simple multiplexing point-to-point products."
With a network bandwidth of 50Gbps there is enough capacity for bi-directional transport of 12 HD-SDI signals, dozens of MADI streams or Gigabit Ethernet signals and hundreds of audio channels or intercom ports, which Riedel states makes it "ideal for streamlining the infrastructure of any mobile, studio or live event application."
MediorNet Compact offers connectivity for up to 12 3G/HD/SD-SDI signals, four AES ports, two MADI interfaces as well as four analogue audio I/Os with high-quality microphone preamps and a dynamic range of 117dB. It also has an interface for Riedel’s RockNet digital audio networks, two DisplayPort outputs, three Gigabit Ethernet ports, connections for serial data and GPIs, and one Sync input plus three Sync outputs.
It supports all network topologies including ring, daisy-chain, star or any combination of these, and the units can be equipped with various fibre connectors, ranging from install-friendly LC connectors to road-proof Neutrik opticalCONs with integrated WDM multiplexing technology.
MediorNet Compact comes in a 3RU housing and features integrated broadcast-quality signal processing tools such as Frame Store Synchronizer, Embedder/De-Embedder, Test Pattern Generator, On-Screen Display and Timecode Insertion at every port.
Also new from Riedel is Artist CCP-1116 commentary control panel, for two commentators with integrated intercom functionality for Artist Digital Matrix Intercom systems. It includes high-quality microphone pre-amps, in a compact housing and connected via a single CAT5 or COAX cable. A stand-alone/emergency mode and a redundant power supply ensure reliability.
