Periscope targets pro market with Producer launch17 October 2016
Periscope has launched Producer, allowing users to broadcast with professional equipment as well as mobile phones and tablets.
The Twitter-owned video-streaming app is targeting brands, media organisations and other live video creators as it looks to expand the service.
At a basic level, Producer allows broadcasters to livestream to Periscope and Twitter directly from their own camera setup — whether it’s a laptop webcam or a professional-grade video camera. But it also opens up other features likely to appeal to pros, such as the ability for broadcasters to add custom animations, graphics and even advertising to their streams.
Announced in a blog post, the company said, “In just the last few weeks, we’ve seen captivating examples of broadcasters streaming new types of live video content on Periscope.
“Professionally-produced live broadcasts on Periscope has always been part of our vision, and gives our community new types of content to watch together live.
“You’ll start to see more produced live broadcasts on Periscope and Twitter, and we’re looking forward to watching new types of live broadcasts with you.
“When we first launched Periscope, the only way to broadcast live was from a mobile phone. We still strongly believe in the power of sharing live video from mobile devices, but we’re also excited to broaden the opportunities for broadcasters to share new types of live video on Periscope.”
