Panorama picks EVS for record deal26 October 2011
The Russian OB facility company Panorama has signed a huge deal with EVS for servers and live controllers that will also see more than 1,500 operators trained. The systems will be used in 12 OB trucks being bought for coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympics, writes David Fox.
Panorama chose EVS servers and live controllers as the standard implementation for its new mobile units thanks to a combination of reliability and the live oriented architecture of the EVS technologies. Also, EVS was the only system provider to guarantee both a fast level of technology implementation and a large number advanced operators familiar with the technology.
Panorama is the largest Russian unified facility company, created in December 2009 by Channel One, VGTRK, NTV and RIA News. It has commissioned the integration of a large number of new HD mobile production units from Sony Professional Europe, comprising of 12 OB units of different sizes ranging between 10 and 24 cameras.
The approx. €10million deal with EVS comprises an extended range of EVS products including the new XT3 production and media server, XF2 removable storage system and the IPDirector advanced production content management system. As part of the deal, EVS will train more than 1,500 operators in Russia, creating a large community of operators in the region.
Russia will host country several major sports events in the coming years, including the Summer Universiades 2013 in Kazan, the Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014 and the Football World Cup in 2018.
