Newtec boosts Russian capacity

Newtec has been highlighting the results of its recent trials of DVB-S2 Multistream with major Russian satellite operators, which have the potential to improve capacity levels significantly for television transmission across the country.

Russia relies almost exclusively on satellite transmission for television, and the drive to introduce DTT across the country over the next few years is creating enormous demand and satellite capacity issues. Newtec, working with the Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC) used its Horizon Multistream solution to send multiple transport streams over a single satellite carrier. This included three bouquets of multiple television channels transmitted through one carrier instead of the traditional multiple carrier solution — enabling major operational savings combined with optimal transmission quality.

Newtec is the first company in the world to implement fully Multistream capabilities into its product range and now has a proven track record through multiple deployments worldwide. Unlike using traditional DVB multiplexers, Newtec’s unique DVB-S2 Multistream implementation does not modify the original transport streams and maintains the integrity of the original content. This makes it particularly suited for mobile and terrestrial TV networks and gives broadcasters a fully transparent and efficient way to carry the content over satellite towards the transmitter towers. The unique combination of Multistream with Newtec’s NoDE and Equalink solutions, makes this the most robust and efficient solution in the industry.

Serge Van Herck (pictured), CEO of Newtec, said: "Russia is a tremendous and challenging market for television transmission over satellite and with the great demands now being made upon it, I am thrilled that our trial with RSCC has been so successful. We are proud that our Newtec products are leading the technological advances in our industry. It is our mission to deliver to our customers the best solutions that can help them realise their business objectives. I’m convinced that this trial will prove to be a real landmark as Russia strives to keep pace with the demand for digital terrestrial television and we are looking forward to a successful relationship with RSCC for our new projects."
