3D Storytelling Conference takes shape

The 3D Storytelling Conference organised by Ravensbourne is taking shape with speakers from Sky and several of the UK’s main 3D experts lined up.

“We delivered the first 3D Storytelling Conference as a one-off event last year funded with European project money,” said Carrie Wootten, Co-Director of 3D storytelling, head of enterprise and innovation at Ravensbourne. “The feedback was overwhelmingly in favour of an event for 2012.

“There is quite a backlash in how 3D is being used but our conference is predicated on asking how can you use it creatively, intelligently to enhance a story and its characters for TV and film and across genre rather than being a gimmick for action.”

The free to attend, two-day sponsored event March 22 - 23 includes workshops and panel sessions as well as keynote speakers including Sky 3D director John Cassy, Julian Napier (director, Carmen 3D), Andy Millns, director Inition and Vision 3 stereographer Chris Parks.

“We are about to launch a bespoke piece of research (with www.filmclub.org) canvassing the opinions of pupils at 7000 schools and their attitude to 3D content which we will present at the conference,” said Wootten.

Ravensbourne recently begun its first MA course dedicated to 3D Stereoscopic Media.
