Mobistar plans expansion24 September 2014
Belgium’s second largest mobile telecommunications operator Mobistar will branch out into cable TV and broadband services later this year, launching a two-phased set-top box deployment that will include interactive functionality using technology from Alpha Networks, Zappware and Siligence.
For phase 2, Alpha Networks will supply interactive services management systems for the cable TV element via its web-based ANS Software suite. The Brussels based company is also providing integration services and taking on responsibility for operations and IT infrastructure.
Zappware will supply Mobistar with user interfaces for decoders, tablets, smartphones and PCs while Siligence will take charge of TV decoders for the cable network.
Included in the new cable service ecosystem from phase 1 is Viaccess-Orca’s Prime Sentinel, which is being used for access control, and SoftAtHome’s embedded software platform SOP.
Mobistar chief executive Jean-Marc Harion told the IBC Daily: “I came to IBC to visit our newly selected partners who will help Mobistar to offer the best interactive television experience over cable to Belgian consumers at a competitive price.”
Alpha Networks chief executive Victor Badin added: “Alpha Networks provides Mobistar with a complete and efficient Pay-TV subscription and management solution based on our television centric OSS/BSS (subscriber management). The hosting of all operational services allows Mobistar to launch this revolutionary offering in a short time whilst remaining entirely focussed on its core activities.”
