Liverpool FC invests in Space

Liverpool Football Club has purchased a new 32TB central video storage unit from GB Labs to power its LFCTV high definition channel. The Space system will be used as a tier 1 editing platform to create clips, fast turnaround highlights and preview programmes for both online and television audiences.

“Liverpool selected Space because of its very high performance, versatility and expansion options. This means that the club is well placed to handle all the club’s video requirements in-house, now and in the future,” commented Duncan Beattie, ‎global product manager at GB Labs.

The HD version of Liverpool Football Club’s satellite and cable TV offering launched in November last year, when it also became a 24-hour channel. The cost for customers of receiving the channel also increased, but in return for the £84 a year service fans get to see “a new-look interactive studio, regular live news bulletins from Melwood training ground every day, more behind the scenes access, exclusive interviews, features and documentaries,” the Club promised. The channel is available on Sky and Virgin Media, or online via LFCTV GO.

Optimised for HD environments, Space can be expanded using EX units for greater capacity and increased stream counts. The addition of the new HyperSpace system gives Space Ultra HD levels of performance. The storage allows multiple editors to access files concurrently over Ethernet, and with no client licenses, the club can add editors to the workgroup at before, during and after match days.

GB Labs’ Space is a range of network storage devices, with each unit optimised for file sharing, media archiving and file-based workflows. Space can be integrated with asset management, transcoding, editing, grading and archiving solutions, and has online storage for HD, 4K and 8K environments, nearline archiving platforms and fast tape devices.
