itfc prepares Five HD content

14 July 2010

Ahead of the launch of Five HD yesterday, itfc has been working over the last few months preparing 15-20 hours a week of content using a Final Cut Pro-based workflow it developed initially for ITV HD.

“We’ve been preparing content for ITV HD since 2007 using a similar workflow with Final Cut Pro, so we have the experience and the equipment to do the job to Five’s high standards,” said Lesley Marr, senior operations director, itfc. “To make sure we could handle the large volumes of material we’ve just expanded our storage capacity and added a third Final Cut Pro HD suite.”

itfc ingests the content digitally before making it available for viewing by Five’s content compliance team. It’s then edited by itfc for its relevant time slot. itfc then prepares eight different audio tracks, including stereo and 5.1, checks the video and carries out a detailed assessment to make sure the content’s suitable for transmission, before delivery to Five.

“We’re very excited about the launch of our HD channel,” said David Burge, controller of operations and technology, Five. “We have a long-standing relationship with itfc and they were the logical partner to help us process this high quality content.”
