IBC2007 to be bigger than ever8 February 2007
This September’s 40th anniversary show of IBC will be the largest ever, both in regard to utilised exhibition space as well as in terms of conference attractions, writes Chris Forrester. IBC officials are currently planning on using every hall at Amsterdam’s giant RAI exhibition centre, with a greater amount of space devoted to its popular Mobile Zone, and also a dedicated area for IPTV exhibitors.
Prof. David Crawford, IBC conference chairman, stated one of the key themes of this year’s conference is focused on the “shrinking world” of broadcasting, where the limitations of yesterday’s normal transmission rules frequently no longer apply. Crawford said that besides IBC’s normal portfolio of top-flight keynote names and industry leaders, the conference would continue to be at the cutting edge of high definition progress. Topics already planned include 3DTV, and examining the on-going HD-DVD vs Blu-ray debate, as well as looking at broadcasting standards, in particular the possibilities around 1080p transmission and so-called ‘Super-HDTV’.
IBC will also cover Mobile transmission more comprehensively than ever before. For the past few years there have been some two days devoted to Mobile Business Briefings. This is being expanded to a full five days of coverage, with its own dedicated discussion space. The conference opens on Thursday 6 September for five days. Proposals for contributions to IBC’s conference programme can be submitted via the website.
