FastFilmz has launched an OTT service to provide mobile content to low-bandwidth customers in India.

The provider implemented V-Nova’s video processing software, Perseus, to enable SD quality distribution at sub-audio bit rates, allowing video streaming over the region’s 2G networks, of which 70 per cent of consumers use. which are used by over 70 per cent of consumers.

Karam Malhotra, joint CEO and co-founder of FastFilmz, said, “Without V-Nova Perseus, our streaming service could have only reached a maximum audience of the 30 million people having 3G access.

“With Perseus advanced compression, we are able to reach both 2G and 3G users, quadrupling our potential customer base to over 120 million subscribers.”

With over four billion people still lacking access to mobile video, V-Nova and FastFilmz aim to tackle emerging markets and rural environments where consumers access the internet over older, busier mobile networks.

Guido Meardi (pictured), V-Nova CEO and co-founder, added, “V-Nova Perseus enables FastFilmz to deliver quality video over congested and unreliable 2G networks, creating a sustainable competitive advantage.

“While potential competitors must stand by, watch and wait for 3G networks to reach mass market penetration, FastFilmz is securing market share and a loyal customer base today.”
