Drastic measures for 4K with 4KScope8 December 2011
The new Drastic 4KScope is claimed to be the world’s first 4K software waveform, vectorscope, histogram and monitor, and "the most cost effective 4K monitoring solution available", writes David Fox.
It is designed to take advantage of the AJA Kona 3G’s Quad HD and 4K capture modes and works at resolutions up to 4096×2160. Drastic also supports other AJA I/O Series hardware for non-4K monitoring.
4KScope is a dedicated application that allows users to view a video signal through a range of signal analysis and monitoring tools for realtime quality assurance/control, signal monitoring and analysis, and device or workflow setup and calibration.
It supports single link SDI and single or dual link HD-SDI, 3G dual link and 3G dual rate, plus analogue video input with appropriate hardware. Embedded, AES/EBU and analogue audio levels are displayed as well. Metadata support includes LTC/SMPTE analogue timecode and user bits, VITC/D-VITC vertical blank timecode and user bits, RP-188 HANC timecode and user bits, RP-215 VANC timecode, user bits, key code and ink code, and Active Format Description detection.
Users can view SD PAL/NTSC, 720p, 1080i, 1080psf, 1080p, 2K Digital Cinema, 2K Film, Quad HD, or 4K input sources through waveform, vectorscope (pictured top), histogram (pictured left) and monitor views to calibrate equipment, assist colour correction or grading, confirm phase and amplitude, and set white balance.
“4KScope is an economical solution to professional quality signal analysis. In fact it is the only software based 4K monitoring solution, period,” said Drastic Technologies‘ CTO, James Brooks.
“We’re very pleased that Drastic Technologies has chosen to build their 4KScope 4K solution around the AJA Kona 3G,” said Nick Rashby, President, AJA Video Systems. “AJA set a new standard for low-cost, high quality 4K workflows with KONA 3G, and 4KScope extends that further with a very effective range of signal analysis and advanced monitoring tools.”
Drastic 4KScope is a software only product for Windows 32/64 XP~7 and Apple OS X 10.6 or greater. It is also available for Linux as an OEM product.
