Netflix users in the US will be able to stream all Disney films, including Pixar, Lucasfilms and Marvel titles, from September this year. All Disney films released in cinemas in 2016 onwards are included in the deal, which Netflix reached with Disney in 2012.

Netflix has shared its film schedule for US customers on a blog post, with claims that the service see a 20 per cent increase in film watching by members in the US around Memorial Day weekend. The raft of new films to be made available on the service over the summer months includes classic like Jurassic Park, Academy Award-winners such as Spotlight and new releases including The Big Short. Netflix Original films Tallulah and The Fundamentals of Caring will also be added to the film library.

Netflix will become the exclusive US subscription TV service for Disney’s new releases, after signing a deal at the end of 2012 after Disney’s contract with Starz expired. It was reported at the time the deal would cost Netflix in the region of $300 million per year.

Shares in Netflix jumped three per cent yesterday following the announcement.
