Discovery to focus on IP29 March 2017
David Zaslav, Discovery Communications’ chief executive, has said that the company is preparing itself for a digital transformation.
Speaking at Discovery’s Upfront event in New York, Zaslav said: “We’re changing the culture of our company. We’re making the pivot from being a company about channels to a company about IP.”
“We have to figure out IP that can be on every device,” Zaslav added, telling the audience Discovery wants to “own all of our IP everywhere in the world on every device.”
As part of the event, Discovery announced plans for a new Snapchat channel for Eurosport that will include content around the upcoming Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. Content for the channel is being created by Group Nine.
Discovery also announced a new Amazon channel themed around its ‘Say Yes’ programming. The new app will be Discovery’s third, with an Investigation Discovery-branded True Crime app and the Destination Unknown paranormal-themed app already available.
