Dermot Nolan is new DG of DTG

The Digital TV Group (DTG), the industry association for digital television in the UK, has confirmed the appointment of Dermot Nolan as its new Director General. Nolan brings twenty-five years’ experience to the role having previously worked as a director at a variety of consultancy firms specialising in the digital television and telecommunications industries, writes Fergal Ringrose.

Nolan’s most recent job has been working within Ofcom’s Competition Policy Group spanning projects in the regulation of broadcasting, mobile and telecommunications industries.

DTG Chairman, Professor David Youlton, said: “Dermot ticks so many boxes! Having been consulting on strategy in the communications industries for more than a quarter of a century Dermot brings a breadth of knowledge and wealth of experience that is truly unique.

“Whether on technical strategy, public policy or regulatory intervention, Dermot will add significant additional firepower to the already exceptional executive team at the DTG. Dermot’s experience and drive will be vitally important as we move through digital conversion into the even more complex field of digital convergence.” Nolan himself commented: “The work of the DTG to date has helped establish a vibrant digital TV market and I am delighted to be joining the DTG at such an exciting moment. We can all see that a profound change in technology is relentlessly driving the television industry into the digital age, an age where new strategies, new business models, new partnerships and new services are continuously emerging.”
